Girl Time is a Must

Our theme song for the weekend was “Twerk It” by City Girls ft. Cardi B. & Yes, we did ratchet things with more friends lol. I just want to do a quick recap of what we also did to feel, look and be our best during this much needed mini girls trip to to South Florida!

First Stop? Griot Fest 2k18

The Griot Fest is a Haitian Food festival where people get to experience the vibrate and delicious Haitian culture in South Florida. It’s held in Boca Raton where many restaurants sponsor the event as vendors so there was plenty of food. That’s always my main concern when it comes to ANY Haitian event: will there be enough food 🙇🏾‍♀️?

The overflow of griot supply was absolutely beautiful 🤤. Haitian macaroni, mushroom rice and beans, PICKLIES, fried Goat 🙌🏾 And the banan (plantains) 😍 . There was so much more food selection that I just don’t remember but it was Haitian food lovers paradise.

Along with food, there’s live kompa! I love love love Kompa (Haitian music) so that was a very nice addition for me.

According to the @the_riot_fest_haitian_food_fest on IG, occurs annually at the Sunset Cove Amphitheater in Boca Raton, FL. This year’s event took place on Saturday 11/17/18 and lasted from 6 to 10 p.m. Tickets cost $40, which is a little steep since it didn’t include food, and it didn’t help that they taxed out the butt for them beautiful plates 😢. I wasn’t playing with them vendors though; FILL MY $20 PLATE SIR 🗣.

Overall, I’m glad I was able to experience this event and I look forward to it next year. Being there made me very proud to see my Haitian community come together for such a well received celebration of our contagious culture.

I would suggest bringing a chair or blanket to sit in the grass as there are no chairs. People got their food from the vendors lined up in the back and went straight to the lawn to enjoy the show!

These two guys, James and Jonas , are hilarious on IG and Facebook! Their material focuses on the Haitian culture and how it affects Haitian American people born in the states. They started off as a group of 3 or more young men, and branched off into their own directions but I will always remember them as the “Haitian Husbands” who created such familiar characters like “Bertha” and “Mama Junior”😂

We had a good time at Tap 42, where bottomless mimosas are a must and the chicken and waffles are actually good and not just overhyped lol. The DJ definitely helped set the vibe with an enjoyable mix of hip hop and Latin music. I actually heard Spanish trap music for the first time here. I wasn’t mad at it 🤷🏽‍♀️. The only upset was the wait for a table: 103 people ahead of us and we got there before 1 p.m. I would suggest calling 2 weeks ahead of time to reserve a table because this place is poppin!

Its def going to the Voluminous Carbon Black mascara by L’Oreal cosmetics. I forgot my lash extensions but this mascara came all the way through for ya girl! My bottom lashes were even flexing lol. It never lets me down 😍

In the end, I had a great time with my girls and I really needed that. Sometimes you’ve just gotta let loose with your friends to feel, look and be your best.
